Cloth Door Panels
I am considering an interior redo on my S2 that is inspired by the celebration edition cars:
![]() My thinking is linen carpet, all black dash, and center inserts on the front and rear seats in this cool, mini black and white check cloth I have kicking around, and the same cloth on the door panels. As the current all vinyl door panel is all one piece, I'm pondering the best way to end up with cloth on them as in the photo above. It seems that the door panel would be multiple pieces on a car with cloth from the factory. Can anybody shed some light on this? Maybe someone has a pair of cloth door panels they'd like to part with? Thanks!

I love this interior. For the 968s they called it Multicolor cloth. Of the 4,242 North American 968 cabs only 7 (6 coupes, 1 cab) were produced with this interior. It was produced in black, cashmere, classic grey, magenta, and cobalt blue with plaid patterns to go with each. You could get the entire seat surfaces in the cloth or just the inserts with leather bolsters.
The door panels were available but not standard with the these interiors. Option code 526 got the multicolor cloth extended to the door panels. So, you don't have to extend the cloth to the door panels to be correct although I think it looks better. I have seen them for sale in Europe but BIG dollars. Good luck.

I just sold my Celebration Edition a few months ago. I miss it! Nice and cool in the summer, warm in the winter.

Love full seat face cloth. Especially love the bias the bolster fabric is placed relative to seat pan and back rest panels.

Phase 1, seats redone...and problems
Got the seats done. Unfortunately, the upholsterer screwed the pooch when it came to getting the stitching straight. Not sure what to do at this point. I only have so much of this material. I had planned to put it of the door panels on this car, and hoped to be able to do the seats on the 914 in it as well. I'm pretty unhappy. This is not acceptable.

Ouch. It doesn't look bad from a distance, but yeah, I'd be a bit unhappy about paying for a job like that too.
On the door card issue, I've seen one nicely-done interior that did cloth inserts with the vinyl upper - they simply cut the card in two and separate the top from the main portion.

I remember reading about a year ago that you can actually still get that pattern cloth from a supplier. I don't have a link, but maybe someone else has current info.

Werk924 has it. Looks like Berber-Tweed Brown-Biege, 98 euro's per yard/meter. They also have the celebration cloth.

The upholsterer says he'll make it right. Why is it always no problem to do it right the second time? I'll never get it.
