Found the fuel level sending unit....now what?

I did find the unit under the mat and a square insulating mat right over the sending unit. I see 3 conectors and about 6 or so hex heads....do I remove the hex screws to get the unit out? or do I just unhook the connectors and twist it out?

Once done....What am I looking for and how do I know if it's good or not?

Yep, you have to remove the bolts (should be 5 if memory serves)

it should lift right out after that, lift it slowly and allow the gasoline in it to run back into the tank.

Check the condition of the seasling rings under the bolts, and the O-ring on the bottom of the sender.
