knock sensor check?

Guys is there a way to check the operation of the knock sensor? The reason I ask is because I am currently working on the top of the engine replacing a bunch of hoses, vacuum lines, installing venturi delete, and checking sensors for their operation as well as cleaning them up. I am also going directly to a manual boost controller setup avoiding the cycling valve so I assume that the knock sensor is very important to me at this point.

Look forward to hearing

Thanks
Paul

According to the factory manual, the check for the knock sensor is to have the engine running, a timing light showing the ignition timing, tap the knock sensor with a hammer and observe that the timing is retarded a few degrees with the tap.

May I ask which models have a knock sensor? Just the turbo's or the n/a's too?

You may.

According to the PET, the turbo models have one each and the 16 valve motors (944S, 944S2 and 968) have two each.
