Lexus SC400
Tonight I realized why the Porsche 944 is so well known for its superior handling. I passed a Pearl white Lexus sc400 in the right lane on the highway going (around 68-75mph) not thinking to much of it, good looking car and was set up nicely though. 10 min in and I notice a car approaching pretty fast behind me, and guess who it is? Yeah it's the "SC" I took this as a taunt as head got behind me and did not slow down. Ahead there is a deep hard turn in front of me, from 80mph I drop into 4th accelerating like hell! I look and the "SC" became a tiny spec in my rearview mirror. That was it! He couldn't keep up! my car stayed planted firmly and hard though out the whole 4th gear roll. I love the 944.

He could have kept up though... The first gen SC400 had about 250hp. I suspect he chose not to keep up.

I believe all 1st gen sc400's are 1UZ's- 4.0v8 mated with only auto trans- not completely sure though. Later on comes 5 speeds and the 1jz's. the 1UZ is definetely a strong engine but the sc400 is built for luxury, not performance.

All the 400s and 430s are automatics. The first gen 300 was a 1jz with no turbo, and was available with the manual. It had the lowest take rate though.
They handle fine for what they are. They're not very confidence undo tiring but they do have plenty of grip. Sent from my Chroma Nexus 6 |
