Reapply Loctite 574 to girdle after removing crank scraper?
I'm currently assembling my engine and I've decided against using a crank scraper after installing it and torquing the girdle nuts down. Everything was cleaned at the machine shop before I applied the Loctite 574 to the girdle and torqued it down initially. It's been assembled for a few weeks now so I'm sure the 574 has fully cured.
I'm wondering if removing just the six nuts that secure the scraper to the girdle warrants removing the girdle completely and reapplying the Loctite 574. My gut says it's probably not necessary, but it'll be a whole lot easier to do it now than it will when the engine goes back into the car. Any insight from those who have built these engines would be appreciated. http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...psbtbtqjx4.jpg |
574 fully cures in about 24hrs but its really temperature dependent. In your case its fully cured. I would not worry about loosening the girdle to remove the crank scraper, when 574 dries its pretty hard so the seal on the girdle shouldnt be affected. FYI, i am not a pro engine builder, just my opinion.
BTW, seeing witness marks on torqued fasteners pleases my inner engineer (and OCD). :D. |
Techno Duck, thanks for the reassurance. I ended up loosening all of the M12 nuts and re-torquing them to spec. I doubt the girdle moves any appreciable amount when the torque is released, especially since the other nuts weren't disturbed.
I'm devising a tool to prime the oil pump so that I can check for pressure at the filter housing before the engine is taken off of the stand. |
So is that scraper for sale?
