Interpretation of Porsche Manual
I have the pages in the manual that describe tests to perform on the cruise control but have a question. The manual suggests checking voltages/resistances on various pin combinations. For plug #2, they say the reading should be "every 2 - 4 kohms". Or another test says "every 20 - 40 ohms".
Anyone know what the word "every" means in this context or are they trying to say "always". Sometimes things get awkward with the translations. Thanks. |

You still haven't gotten that cruise problem straightened out yet? That must be driving you nuts by now.

Mike, I can get it to work by turning it on while driving, stopping car but leaving motor running, unplugging the big plug at the servo, plugging it back in, hopping in car, and, presto, it works. I actually go though that drill when I drive it to DE's.
Yeah, between it and some pesky oil leaks, the cinder is kept in my shoe. I did find the test procedure for it. But I cannot figure out what they mean when they have you measure the resistance on some terminals on plug 2. The wording is peculiar, 'every'. |

Yep, looked it up in the german manual - it says exactly the same thing.
Will be in the shop this afternoon - we have a few "known good" units - will run a check for you with what the values should be. AFJuvat

But I like my cruise when I drive to track events.

Oh, dude, Im not saying to remove it
I had a question awhile back asking what the manual meant by "remove". I mean they would say "remove" intake manifold. Then they would say "remove" throttle cable. Why would they want me to remove the throttle cable from the car when you can "disconnect" it and move it aside? Anyways.

The verdict is in - compared the English and German language versions again - plus ran a test on one I know works.
The section you are referring to (the second section on testing with a voltmeter/ohmmeter) The first series of tests refer to the box when the car is standing still. Steps 8 and 9 refer to resistances when the car is moving. The resistance should increase by the stated amount for roughly every 50 KMH increase in speed. Hope that helps AFJuvat

Finally Fixed
Well, well, well, I finally got the cruise working properly. I resorted to resoldering every connection on the back of the control module. I had not done this because when looking at it under magnification, every solder joint look good. Guess every joint was not good. I have no idea which one it was.
I also resoldered all joints on the one another list member kindly sent me. It is dead. I have been fiddling with this problem for well over a year. Sometime it worked, most of the time it didn't. But it tended to work in cold weather and sometimes in very hot weather. And it would always work if I unplugged and replugged the servo with the engine running. Now for the oil leaks and AC compressor shaft leak - winter projects. |
