Pressure sensor on the Power Steering Pump
It seems that there is a pressure sensor of sorts on the power steering pump on the 88 944S that I have. The wires are brittle and I snapped the connectors off disconnecting them. I snipped them back and wrapped them up to keep them from grounding out. My question is that if this sensor (which is unnecessary according to what I've read) is left disconnected, will it trip the "!" warning light on the dash? Mine is staying on when I have the engine fired up. There are no other warnings illuminated on the dash to indicate where the "!" is coming from. Do the wires to the sensor need to be bridged to complete the circuit to turn off the warning light? I might just splice on some good wire and reconnect it if need be. Anyway, does anyone have any experience with this sensor? I do know that should the wires ground out, it causes some issues in the wiring harness. I do NOT want that.

Update: I did a little Googleing and found out the what I've done (snipped the ends and taped them up) is the recommended elimination procedure. I will have to figure out what is tripping the "!" light.

If the "!" warning light is on by itself, it means that one of the other bulbs is burned out. Check all of the warning light bulbs. Most should turn on when the ignition is initially turned on, then extinguish when the engine is running. For example, if it is an airbag car, someone might have removed the bulb from the airbag indicator.

You nailed it.. But I have removed the airbag on the steering wheel while I'm working on this thing.. That's got to be it. I didn't think of that. This is the first 944 that I've had with an Air Bag.
The PO has installed white face gauges and an aftermarket LED lighting setup in the cluster. I'm considering going back to the original gauge faces depending on how difficult the white faces are to remove. I also will be eliminating the LED lighting in the cluster and going back to the stock lighting setup after I restore the reflective surface on the plastic light "conduits" on the bottom of the cluster. However, I will be using red LEDs in place of the incandescent bulbs. Last edited by dgcantrell; 05-23-2016 at 05:43 AM.. |
