Cold Air Intake Parts

For those that have changed to either a K&N or other cone filter, where did you buy the pipe that goes between the MAF and the cone filter. I have seen a few in stainless steel and some fiber glass. Thank you.

my 944 came with just a exposed filter, I do not have all the original parts to put the stock air box back on (or I wold) but I also like all the room under the hood, so I had to make a few mods to make the K&N fit and it is tight, but I like it.

Why do people waste their money on this crap? The stock air box with a K&N filter installed has more surface area therefore more airflow. Not to mention unless they lose the cold-air aspect of the intake. Even using the K&N ducting and housing shown above really does nothing to help performance at all.. The stock air box has a velocity stack inside to help smooth and direct the airflow from inside the box as it hits the AFM. This cone shaped air filters are nothing more than a gimmick.

it is indeed largely about surface area. you must have AT LEAST as much surface area as stock.

that being said, COLD AIR INTAKES WORK if designed properly.

K&N is a great filter. properly oiled, cleaned, and maintained, it does an outstanding job. ignored, over-oiled or dirty, not so much, but then neither does a paper filter.

for a cold air intake to work, it must have a large filter, a cold location with good air access, and the connecting tube must not be subjected to heat, nor have a lot of bends in it, and it must be no smaller than the entry to the engine.

the one above will not work well. the hose is kinked, and the ridges create resistance. the housing is too small, as is the filter inside it. at a bare minimum, that setup should be reversed, with the filter on the outside, and the hose between it and the intake point. serviceability may become an issue at that point though, as well as water entry
