Unhappy Overheating issues

Well i finally got my 85.5 944 back this week. It was driving great since i replaced the belst, rollers, tensioners, water pump, stat, ball joints, sway bar bushings. anyways the day i got it back i was able to drive the tail of the dragon here in the tennessee mountians, unfortunately when i was on my way home my temp guage started to rise quite quickly and ended up taking it back to the shop that worked on it and had them bleed the coolant and use a vac pump? to get the air pocket out... well it drove fine until yesterday i was sitting in traffic for no longer than 15mins and the temp shot up almost in the red so i shut it off and barely made it home without it over heating.. when im moving its perfect but when i stop for more than a min the coolant guage starts moving up...

Do both fans turn on when you turn on the A/C? If so, use that when it gets hot, in my early model, I can twist the knob to disengage the compressor when on the track. The A/C actually works in my 1983! Could be the t-stat is not working, it's old, or installed wrong. Check the thermo-switch on the radiator, there are two leads to it, one or more could be hanging there. Nice car, my favorite color on an n/a, besides black, is guards red!

the thermostat was a "genuene Porsche" part from my local porsche/audi dealership... then what is the thermoswitch? yes both fans spin when it gets to mid range on the temp guage.. but it doesnt help any. also yeah its by far my favorite color on a 944.. both this and my old 924S was a guards red. Love it!

You need to verify that the car is actually overheating. When it nears the red mark, shoot the cylinder head with a laser pyrometer.

Yeah I'd check it with a laser to be sure it "is or isn't" overheating. When I got my 88 924S back from being serviced here at a local shop. My car was pegged in the red showing hot, but with a laser on the motor the engine temp was showing ok. I never had an issue with it overheating before it went into this particular shop and it had nothing to do with why it was there. I took it in to have the timing belts, counter balance and other major things that I myself am not qualified to repair, but for some reason they changed out my 1 prong temp sensor and replaced it with a 2 prong from a 911 with some lame excuse. Anyway I've not been back to that shop and ordered the correct 1 prong sensor from Pelican Parts and have installed it, but I'm having some other issues with my car and I'm unable to get it to start now. But before when it was running I did check the motor with a laser and the temperature was fine even with the wrong sensor in it...
