Brake sensor wires and stud, ground or no?
 

Greetings all,

I've been lurking these boards for awhile since I recently procured a 944 to enjoy along side my 964. I've loved these cars for years, especially as I have a good friend who had several 944's including some seriously modded track weapon turbos, so I've appreciated these cars for a long time. (I'll include a few pics since it's customary to do so when you're new to a specific board):)

I've got a possible issue that I can't suss out from my research. I've got a 1988 NA that needs new front struts BADLY, and I bought a set of Koni's and had Paragon do the conversion. They look perfect and nicely don, but the donor struts they used look to be from a 1986 Turbo car (p/n matches) and in addition to the brake line bracket being perpendicular rather than angled (not big deal as long as the line will conform) the strut housing doesn't have the stud that the brake sensor wiring from the car attaches to (see pick below).

My question is: is this stud a ground for the brake sensors or is it just to hold them in place? I'll include a pic of the wiring I'm asking about also below.

OH - and I'm asking the moderator to update the title... argh!

Brown wires on Porsches are ground wires. Those brown wires with the ring connectors need to be bolted to something providing a ground. (unpainted metal) I think those harnesses connect to the wheel speed sensors needed for the anti-lock brakes.

If those are ABS wires, then yes they need to be grounded.

My car doesn't have ABS, and the wire loom looks like the brake wear sensor harness, which doesn't require any grounding.

They can't be 1986 Turbo struts because those are early-offset. You'll have a tonne of positive camber.

Also the spindle-clamp on the '86 951 strut is 18mm while the spindle on 88 944na is 20mm thick.

Thanks everyone - the struts in the pics above aren't the actual ones so you're correct about them not being '86 Turbos - sorry about that. I used the pic to show the differences between the two areas around the brake sensor mounting.

Speaking of - since my car doesn't have ABS, I should be good to go just zip tying the brown wire out of the way then.
