Is this 944 worth looking at?

Hello All,

New to the forum and a prospective 944 owner. Seems to fit my current wants/needs quite well and I've always admired them. I've been reading a lot more on the forum about maintenance and what to look for as well.

To give you some background on my question, I'm currently in the process of purchasing a new house and was hoping to put off seriously looking for a car until the Spring. Not knowing the market for 944's very well though I wanted to check to see if I would be passing up a good find if I didn't take a look at this one. See the Craigslist ad below.

Ideally I'd love to find a black one, though I'm not crazy particular. I just want some second opinions that if I pass up this find, there's a good chance I'll find a comparable deal in the Spring. Thanks!!

Looks like a nice car. Timing belt only has 17k miles but is 6 years old, if it were me for peace of mind i would replace it. Tires are 6 years old also, i would replace them also regardless of tread left. I would use the above to negotiate the price down.

I wouldn't let this scare me away, but the metallic colors (i think Zermatt is one of them) are clear coated from the factory. The clear coat on these is not the best and sometimes it cracks. Only visible if you are looking up close at the paint. I had a 924S that was Zermatt Silver, no issues. But a friends Zermatt S2 had it. Just something to look for if you inspect the car.

Really nice car. Like the interior. Cloth and sport seats. Cloth on door panels too. A uniquely optioned car. Celebration edition. Make a deal and negotiate in the maintenances items to drive price down. My $0.02.

Here's one on sale here in Seattle. It has less miles. But look at the price. 1988 *Porsche* *944* 'Celebration Edition'

My son has one, but sadly the original upholstery was pretty much toast. We put a linen interior in it; the only original part left are the door cards. Here's pictures of my son's: http://www.69workshop.com/New_88/ It's currently primered waiting to get painted.

$6850 is a decent price for the car you're looking at - providing that it's all ok mechanically.

That's definitely worth looking at, seems very well cared for. Note the uncracked dash - probably garaged for the majority of its life. But with 126k, you know it wasn't just sitting in the garage rotting. That's a good combination for these cars. 88 models also have a higher compression ratio and the updated timing belt tensioner. Those may or may not be important to you, but is trivia.
