bad vibes!
Had a 200 mile journey to do today, turned the key, car started but instead of the usual tickover the whole vehicle started to shake and i mean shake! I let it run for a couple of minutes but nothing improved so I shut it off. A few minutes later I tried again this time pretty well normal, so slowly off I go. 1/2 mile later going uphill it lost power momentarily, then ok. Well I decided to go for it, I was on edge for most of the trip but the car went like a dream and back again. Comments/opinions more than welcome please. Thanks.
Information available: Battery connected to trickle charge day before (but car had 3 mile run since) Damp morning when this problem occured. Apart from that everything as usual. 944s2---'89 |

MAybe moisture somewhere in the ignition...plugs ect? heat and the engine running would cure this...

Have you recently put new gas in?

Yes, filled up nite before. It happened again to-day, not the vibration but it hesitated once slightly on the way home from work. going to work was ok. So far each time the engine has not got very warm.

I would look at the DME temp sensor. It's the one on the block just behind the water pump below the head. The other temp sensor is in the AFS (air flow sensor) but doesn't have as much impact on the mixture as the one in the engine block.
Then all this could be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter. Either the one after the fuel pump or the screen in the tank before the fuel pump. But like the pressure regulator and dampener if they go bad they stay bad. Also check the grounds from the engine to the battery/fire wall. Intermittent faults are a RPITA. |
Ok Hugh thanks, will check out your suggestions.
I thought the vibration that first occured might be linked. Yes intermittent faults are a pain, a main dealer had my car for weeks a couple of years ago with such a fault, it was traced eventually to a wire from the fuel pump which had parted inside the insulation but made contact most of the time. I hope this is not a repeat performance. |
