How much to inspect timing belt?

My car is just getting to the 15k mark, how much does it cost to have a mechanic inspect the timing belt?

Also I am going on the previous owners word that he replaced it @ 90k (@105k now). While I do trust him that it was done at 90k (there are receipts), how much would I expect it to cost to go ahead and change the belt?

Should I just have it inspected now and replace it come spring? I know everyone here preaches to have it replaced as soon as you get the car, but I don't have the $300 right now to pay for it.

I'm planning on changing brake fluid, tranny fluid, air filter, fuel filter, coolant in the spring (no garage, 10* outside right now).

Dude, change it. Unless you have receipts, dont trust anyone when it comes down to something like that. I am thinking about 200 - 250?

Unless you have receipts for a replacement, don't assume

Inspection/retension costs around $75 - $80 Replacement is around $300

Depends.

Was balance belt and seal ever changed? Were front engine seals replaced or are they leaking now?

wereTiming belt rollers and tensioner replaced?

what about water pump, ever replaced (with rebuilt turbo version hopefully)?

depending on your answer you may want to just tension timing belt now and save up $1000 so you can do all this other stuff in a while, but don't wait too long. That's what I'm doing right now.

porsche says change every 45k, conventional wisdom among us waterpumpers says every 30k. he's got a belt with only 15k on it, documented. why should he change it now?
