Question 968 wing on a 944

I'm looking into installing a 968 wing on my '86 944. I've been told I need to replace the entire rear hatch assembly. Does that sound right or is the 968 wing a plug'n'play for the 944?

Nope, you will have to swap the whole rear hatch (unless someone makes an aftermarket one for the 944??)

I have seen the switch done, and yes it does require switching the whole hatch. The bigger issue is hooking up the wiring and getting the 3rd brake light to work. I ripped the 3rd brake light out of my jeep because in VA if it doesn't work, you can be fined, but they are not required. Just more stuff to maintain for no reason.

Why are you guys saying that they can't be swapped? Am I mistaken to believe the the rubber 944 rear spoiler bolts to the hatch frame and so does the the 968 one, so what's the deal?

I guess one thing would be leftover holes across the back under the midsection or wing but that's about it.

Shortly there will be a Rennlist supplier that will be offering a 968 wing that bolts to the existing 944 hatch for under $500, complete.

Stay tuned for details.....

There is a company selling a bolt-on 968 wing on e-bay. Before this you DID have to buy the 968 hatch or modify the original hatch.

I purchased a complete 968 hatch with spoiler for my car.

Here is a link to the bolt-on spoiler;

Thanks for the info guys. I've managed to find the entire rear hatch assembly from a 1990 968 around $700. My current hatch is suffering from the delamination disease so I figure replacing the entire hatch will solve that problem too.

The one on Ebay looks promising, it's just ufortunate I think that one is too big to ship to my location.

Fty,

It is www.KLAindustries.net . Scott is finishing up the initial production run right now and will have them up on the site for sale soon. If they are like the rest of his products, they will be top-notch. I have purchased the odo gear and upper strut tower brace from him and they are great.

I can post here and let you guys know when he emails me that they are done.

Tifo

What about using the wing off a 1991 S2? That was a raised wing as well, and you'll probably have less trouble bolting that on vs. a 968 wing.
It is a little smaller than a 968 wing, but it looks very similar.

Just my $0.42
