Tiptronic vs. 6 speed 968
I am going to buy a 968 Cabriolet 1992-1993. I dont exactly understand what the Tiptrionic Tranmission is. How does it compare to thje 6 speed.
Thank You |

The Tiptronic is a 4-speed automatic transmission. It differs slightly from a standard automatic because you have the option of choosing which gear you'd like to be in [to a certain extent] by tapping the shifter upward or downward in the second gear selector column.

I would go with the 6 speed unless you are really afraid of a clutch pedal...

See here for performance comparison:

Maybe I was a little harsh regarding the Tip.
A 968 Tip Cab runs the 1/4 mile in roughly the same time as a 944S Coupe. http://www.weissach.net/924-944-968_RoadTestSummary.html#968Cabriolet Karl.

I drove a nice 94 968 Cab tip that my buddy is selling and while it wasn't like shifting the gears yourself...It does make a nice Cabriolet option...Most convertible drivers aren't wanting to go all out 0-100 MPH runs anyway...I think its a nice way to go for the top down relaxing drive...

Thanks You for the Replies.
Thanks everyone for their input. you have really helped me choose my car. I loved my 944 more than anything. I have been trying to decide to get a cheap 944 or bite the bullet and buy a 968. The 968's are so sweet and newer, that I chose that. I had no idea what this Tiptronic thing was. I definatly believe I want a 6 speed. My 944 was a 5 speed. My drive to work is 15 min through a canyon road. Thanks again everone. You have all been VERY helpfull.
