Weltmeister 200# lowers too much

Ok, so I've just got Weltmeister 200# lowering springs on my M474 Koni front struts.

Problem is that front is now way too low for my preference. I have searched the forum and some comments about these springs to not lower car at all. Well, not for me.

I know the WM springs lower approx 1.25" (33mm) but I was under the impression that the M474 standard spring was already slightly lower than stock (396 vs. 407mm free length) and I would therefore only see a "mild" lowering. Besides, the stiffer new spring would mean less compression than the stock 125#.

Has anyone tried VM 200# with M474 Koni's? What results did you see?

PS: Car is 87 951.

Thanks
/Peter

if you are just after stiffer springs you can get a spacer to bring it back up to stock height. i have these springs and the spacers on my car.

i imagine you could shave/grind off a substantial amount of material to get the desired ride height.

Yes, I've seen these spacers but have been a bit hesitant as it seems like a non-standard solution. I don't think I would pass check at road-safety inspection in my home country :-)

Do the spacers fit under / over the spring or between the coils?

there is less un-sprung weight with the tighter coils on top.

the 1" spacer from weltmeister is part number P915725

remove the white space

it is typical on a Mercedes to change spring spacers with engine weight. i doubt you will fail inspection for spacers made by the spring company.

Thanks V2 and Thomas.

I'll go ahead and order the spacers.
I am just curious as to why I am getting such a different results with the same springs?

The old springs dyno'ed at 107 lbs/in, so the new ones should compress far less. I just wonder if the M474 lowers the car not by spring but through strut design.

I assume the spacers are installed at the top to further lower the unsprung weight?

I would put them in the lower perch but contacting weltmeister would be definitive.

I used a 5mm caster adjuster washer and 3mm bmw 5 series rear spring spacers to shim my front CS springs.

Ordinarily, you would use threaded adjustable cups on the strut to correct for spring height.

What is the difference in height between the springs you took off the replacements?
