Instrument cluster illumination
I have replaced the mirrored lenses with re-mirrored lenses that I bought from a member here on this list.
The illumination of my instruments is still poor. I have checked the light bulbs and the dimmer pot, all ok there. I'm thinking of replacing the light bulbs with super bright leds. Has anyone done this, if so did it make any difference? Let me know. thanks :) |
Coupe do a search, somebody has done this here, but I cant remember who.

i did the foil on the tunnel thing too, all 4 sides, and i even put some foil in the area directly around the bulb, new bulbs, proper wattage, and now i keep them less than full on. ?

Thanks for all the info
Hi all. I had previously experimented with aluminum foil, but it made no diference. Perhaps i will have to check my light bulbs again and possibly even check my wiring. Thanks again for all that info.
I may also be trying leds which, do not overheat the plastic holders. I'll keep you all posted. SmileWavy |
i did this, wired into lighting harness with a 12 Volt regulator to reduce voltage to 3 or 5 volt setting(not sure which) but all you need to do is match voltage to leds supply voltage...then i ran 12 ultra violet leds in parrallel so that the orange paint in the speedo tacho and fuel gauges glows really bright as well as all the needles, get the wide angle led's though, they do a better job. There is a separte switch on the power from the positive lead so that i have individual control over all the led's, and the dimmer pot controls the normal lights...any questions email me Stucor@hotmail.com

Leadfoot, do you have any pictures of the install or the finished cluser? how much do the gauges glow?
