CV Joints
I've got an automatic transmission on my 944, and from what I've been able to gather, so far, is that the CV joints are the same between the manual and automatics, with the only difference being the axles themselves (different lengths on the auto, same lengths on the manual).
Does this information check with everyone? I just want to make sure I'm not buying the wrong part (not like there's much choice). Also, is there anything I need to know before I get the car lifted?

Yes, the CV joints themselves are the same but the axles are different. And the L and R axles are different on the auto, same on the manual.
And you may want to get an 8mm triple square (cheesehead) bit before you start. You'll most likely need to order online. A standard hex will strip those bolts quick. Make sure the holes are cleaned out well, insert the triple square bit, give it a good whack or three with a hammer to make sure it's seated well and then loosen the bolt. As you go around breaking the bolts free, don't remove them. Tighten them back up until you get all the bolts broken loose. If you start taking all the bolts out, by the time you get to the last, it'll have quite a lot of pressure on it causing it to strip. Also keep a good set of vice grips around in case they do strip out. And back up for that would be a set of bolt grip sockets. |
