Porsche Crest Trans bolts rusting/cleaning tranny?

Hey when I was checking out my gas leak (thanks to SoCal for the advice/free fix) I noticed had some grease caked on the transaxle (but no leak) and I was thinking I should get under there with some degreaser and clean it up. I also noted the bolt heads that point towards the rear of the car are rust color. I'm thinking aluminum case with steel bolts? is that right?

I always thought dissimilar metals was a no no.

Is it okay to spray engine degreaser on the tranny?

TIA

Dunno, I saw a phone dial wheel cleaned by a degreaser, and it looked like a bronze color...

I think the bronze discoloration was from a coating on the wheels.

I would assume that the degreaser wouldn't hurt anything. If it were me I wouldn't worry about it though, just plan on having to use a bit of WD-40 if you ever have to take it off.

Never use a degreaser on the rims, you can ruin the finish, but on the trans casing you should be fine.

Think there might be a vent on the top of the trans. Have to check that.

Had good luck with the spray degreaser, followed up with a scrub brush and soapy water.

Don't think there is a vent per se up there, but at least one electrical connection, so I avoid the top of the tranny.
