Question Torsion bars??

Hi all

I hope someone can help me my 1990 944S2 is sitting lower on the rear near side than the off side and as a result when i accellerate hard over a bump or out off a dip the tyre touches the body and shaves bits of rubber off whitch is an expensive hobby as i'm sure you can appreciate, I am running non standard wheels 255.40.17's on the rear but its only ever on the near side it rubs and there is a noticable difference in height of about 15-20mm could this be sorted by adjusting the torsion barr or is there any adjustment on the swinging arm???

Thanx in advance

Paul

If it is only happening on one side, first thing I would check is for a worn out shock.

Torsion bars do not break very often. and they are not that easy to adjust.

Check your shocks first.

I have checked the shock and even replaced it last weekend with another i had but to no avail!! though i'm pretty sure that the shock has nothing to do with the ride hight just the damping?? correct me if i'm wrong?.

Maybe one of the rear suspension bushing need to be replace.

Worn/deformed Factory bushings cause sloppy suspension movment and poor tire wear.

Also if there is only 15-20mm off you can adjust the height using the excentric nut without touching the torsion bars. The adjustment procedure is well documented in a number of reference manuals. Here is a link

Exactly the same problem I had. Must've been someone sneaking around the country secretly indexing only one side.
I finally had to re-index the one side to get mine to sit correctly. (I couldn't adjust it out by the eccentric bolt). Nice thing though, I only needed to drop the assembly on one side slightly to get the end cap off.

Well Whats funny is I have the same problem on my 944s2 where the passenger rear sits lower than driver rear, I personaly think it is designed that way so when the driver sits in it the car becomes level and handling is perfect

If you ever read the porsche manual, every other word is describing the car with no passengers but only the driver .

Go baby go!!!
