retrofit belt tensioner?

I'm very new to the Porsche world. Is is possible to retrofit anautomatic ensioner to a 1986 944?

Thanks,

Gene

It's doable, but involves some work. I personally don't think it's worth it (I have had two 944s, one normally aspirated and another turbo, neither w/the automatic tensioner. The 944 was sold at 110+k with no timing belt failures, the turbo is going on at 191k+ with no failures to date), others disagree. Much easier to do with the block out of the car.

Technically, it can be done

involves removing the engine, drilling and tapping the block.

IMO, not worth the trouble.
