Porsche Crest Heater Blower Motor

The blower motor for the heater will only come on when in the middle position. If it is in the first or third position nothing happens.

Is this a relay?

Thanks
Sabyre

Need to know the year of your car.

Hint: Add it to your signiture line.

Could be the switch. Could be the balast resistor that sets the speeds. Could be the safetys on the balast resistor.

What year?????

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

The thermostats (safeties) in the switch could be dirty. Happened to mine.

Combination of the motor wearing out causing excessive current draw and heating up the switch in the dash causing the plastic to melt and the contacts in the switch to pull away.

The best fix is to replace the motor and the switch. If the balast resistor has burned out (no safety fuses on it) that too.

In some cases you can clean up the armature in the motor (take it to a good electrical motor shop) and replace the switch in the dash.

Can anyone advise me on how to replace the blower motor? Mine will not turn and it has voltage at the motor. If I leave it on too long, it starts to smoke. Thak can't be any good! Can it come out from the engine bay or do I have to tear apart the dash?

My previous post should have said the following. I was a little sloppy with the wording.

The thermostats (safeties) in the resistor bank (on blower box under hood) could be dirty. Happened to mine.

The problem was cause by an oil leak. The vapor was sucked up into the blower and fouled up the thermostats on the resistors. Only high speed position would operate blower.

Sounds like I may have a similar problem...Starting about 2 days ago I discovered that my fan is no longer working at the 1 position. 2,3 and 4 all work correctly...it's annoying, because to get any air flowing in the car I have to have it at 2, which is pretty strong/loud. Heaven help you if you turn it up to 4 in my car...a veritable hurricane!
Should I be checking the same things or is my switch (1989 NA) different from Sabyre's because of our different dashes etc? Any advice appreciated!

Old thread.

Problem. blower does not come on at any speed.

1. I've soaked the ballast resistor and tried to clean it. Is there a way to test the resistor before I replace?
2. Changed the relay in the fuse box with another. No change.
3. How do I "jump" the motor to rule out a bad motor?

Thanks.
