Shift knob insert

I need a shift knob insert for 6 speed 968. Pelican has an aluminum one but they want 35 bucks to ship it. Since it weighs all of an ounce I just can’t understand and I am certainly not going g to pay 35 bucks when postage would cost $1. If anyone know where I can buy a black one I would appreciate it.

Assuming the 968 uses the same shifter cap as the 944 (sorry I don't know if they do), you could try this black plastic one for for $15 with free shipping:

It’s not the same, the clue was in the post, 968 is a “6-Speed”.

They are all about $35-40, this is one of the nicest ones and as it’s stainless it won’t scratch or wear like the aluminum or plastic ones.

I sold a new shift knob and boot on eBay. The insertnI had for it was not the correct one And I didn’t realize it until it was sold. The buyer wants a new black one. I sent him a used one that works but I am trying to satisfy him so I need a new black one. The only one I can find is at pelican for 35. Which would be fine, except they also want 35 for shipping for a total of 70. I’ve already lost about 50 bucks on the sale so I just can’t see paying a $35 shipping charge for a one ounce item. Not sure when pelican started that policy but it’s been since my last purchase a couple of years ago I guess. Hard to believe our illustrious sponsor would be so unreasonable to ship such a small item. Must be some new automated shipping system O guess. It it were a transmission I would understand. Ha

Have you actually called them or are you just looking at the shipping automatically generated on their website?

I’ve called vendors in the past and most will ship USPS priority envelope for small items which is less than $5 iirc.

I might have one. You are okay with the standard black?

i just sold one for $5 not long ago. pretty much every wrecking yard should have one. you shouldn't have a hard time finding one, and it shouldn't cost you more than a 6-pack

The stainless steel one on eBay fits. The auction says it doesn’t but I bought one anyway for 25 bucks. It is a heavy piece of stainless steel and fits perfectly. It has the three prongs with one wider so it cannot be installed incorrectly. Thanks all

lol - i had one of those for about 10 minutes.

because the correct method for shifting means that the ball of the shifter is in the socket of the palm of your hand, it means a good amount of contact of that metal with that palm. given that i had a convertible, and the top was almost always down, that meant that the sun beat on that metal.

NOT FUN TO PUT YOUR HAND ON IT AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE SUN - OUCH!

There is a remedy for that hot shifter and it saves on your shifter leather AND your steering wheel leather:

Use leather perforated driving gloves

I never drive my Porsche, Mercedes, or Audi without them. And a second pair is in my bag on my Harley.
Love 'em

924S rubber/plastic knob pops off

I like the standard lever cover for my 924S but it pops off with only a little upward pressure. It has a threaded shaft underneath but it isn't holding the knob/cover like it probably did from the factory. There is knob in the PET that I found starting at $100 new plus shipping depending on the source (Illustration 701-00) plus a couple other supporting bits but I think the original will work fine with some sort of shimming material. Any suggestion for a wrap material that might hold it on?

I may already have some of this on hand: https://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-Scotch-1-in-x-1-66-yds-Permanent-Double-Sided-Extreme-Mounting-Tape-414DC-SF/203405976
