should i do the head gasket?

hey guys-
ok, here's the short explanation of a long story. the first major car problem i had was my timing belt getting sheared at the crank and having bent valves. rebuilding the engine from the head up was a learning experience, and i almost know what i'm doing now (lol).

unfortunately, when i did the head, i torqued it down in an incorrect manner, and developed a coolant leak from the right side of the head gasket as i was test-running the car. i removed the cam housing tonight and noticed i've got coolant in the oil and vice versa. i was originally just taking the cam housing off to properly torque the head bolts, but since i'm already this far into it, should i take off the head and put a new gasket in and clean things up a bit? i really don't want to after not having my car running for a long ass time, but i want even less to get it all back together and have to take it all back apart.

i realize the answer is probably going to be yes, i just want confirmation that i have to do a bunch of work all over again due to a stupid mistake.

and what is the benefit of having a wide fire ring head gasket?

thanks
ian

once you have the camshaft housing off, there isnt that much more work to take the head off anyway. You know the answere you're going to get, so why fight it? get the wide fire.

I think you have no choice but to replace the headgasket...They are a "one torque" only item...Since you have a N/A I'm not aware of any advantange you will gain by using a widefire gasket...The difference with the widefire gasket is a "wider" sealing ring...This is of benefit for turbo cars under forced induction...

On another note if you need just the headgasket then I have one from a turbo headgasket set which i didn't use as I went with the widefire...Yup, I have a 951...You can have it for cheap if you like...
