968 in Tip gets stuck in Dr.

1day 968 guy.
Helping a friend. 92-968 Tip
Problem
While in Tip mode and in 3rd and after driving for a while all of a sudden car goes from Tip mode to auto and is stuck in Dr . Nothing shows on the Tip side or the 1234, none are lit up. but Tip warning light is on.
Stop car, put in park, turn off car,recycle ignition and start car . Tip light is out and all seems ok. Tip and auto mode work fine . Next day same thing happens.

First question is does this sound familiar to anyone?

Interesting problem. It sounds like your classic electrical fault of a 25 year old car. Before springing for any new parts, I would check all of the connectors for corrosion and proper seating, same with any grounds.

the 968 wsm has fault diagnosis but you might need use of the bosch hammer.

try cleaning the ground for the computer...pin 44

if terminal 15 is inoperative, you go into emergency mode without the light.
