83 944 na automatic (life or death)

I just received today an 83 944 that I bought as a parts car from a new york state trooper. Well the problem is that the engine runs sweet and the trransmission shifts smooth. He said I could clean it up bring it to the strip in deer park in the spring and the kids would offer me @1200 since its an automatic. I now believe him after getting it home and running the engine. It was stored outside and water got in probably thru the sunroof that doesnt work ,the paint has chips the front valancee is cracked (spare came with car as well as a red drivers door because the drivers insided panel is missing, signals dont work as well as @ 100 other electrical and mechanical small problems.
Question: at what point should a car be parted or restored\daily driven?

What does a smooth running engine (120K)go for?

How about an auto trans?

And last what are any valuable items from a 944 other than the DME?

fix it up and drive it.

The engine is worth around $500 and so is the trans. The front and rear brakes are popular with the VW guys. Wheels are worth a little and so are the front fenders and rear hatch. If you part it out you'll have to sit on the rest for a while to get anything out of it.

These are just my opinions based on a little experience.

the car is being parted out. Its in brentwod, long island, new york.

car is black on black and i will post pictures when i get home on Monday 2\14\05.

any large parts can be delivered by me to the ny tri state area as i have a delivery van.

engine is $650 and runs extremely well.
auto tranny is $500.
dme is $100.
cookie cutter rims are $150 for 4 and need to be stripped as they were painted but are straight. no center caps.
seats are $300 and are power leather in great shape.
rear hatch is $100
tail lights are $40 each side
gauge cluster is $75 and reads @20K
windshield is $75 and has light wiper streaks no cracks or dings.
avail excellent door panels, rear seat, and no part is too small.
dont hesitate to ask

I may need some interior trim pieces. I will know tomorrow night after I go through my boxes. (My car is in a lot of boxes right now. I have a 3 spoke wheel though. PM me if you need it.

I know I need the door sill trim and a head liner including the liner for the sunroof. How about the back seat? Is it leather or leather with the porsche script?

got back from florida last night. I removed the seats and cleaned them. These seats were not cared for as they should have been. The passenger seat is hard and has some shrinkage on the seat back insert. The driver seat is actually better that the passenger seat with a small seam split at the front and small fading at the lower seat back.
if anyone is interested let me know, otherwise theyll be on ebay next week.
$250 for the pair with local pickup preferred. I can deliver these for a small fee to NY, NJ, CT area.

also have front valance it was repainted and has some scratches
but it is straight $25, will ship anywhere , actual shipping costs.

Yes I did a compression test today:
#1 170, #2 170, #3 170, #4 175.
The engine ran strong and I drove the car around today, took video of it starting , running and driving then drove it home and started to disassemble it. I got a good look at the motor with the alternator, a\c, and steering rack removed. There is some oil coating the oil pan but no puddles under the car, also I found some oil in the air cleaner box as well as around the filler tube.
Also the timing components should be replaced( belts rollers etc)
I was not happy to see those things as the motor ran and idled so strong, being so I can be a little flexible on the price. The transmission shifted well and downshifted with good power.
