WTB - M44.09 Engine
Hey,
Does anyone have a good used M44.09 engine (1988 944 or 924S) for sale? Or even a good bottom end? As I am in Western Canada, it would help my shipping costs to find one in the Northwestern US. Thanks. |

I'm just throwing this out there....All late bare blocks are the same from 86-88, you could buy a bare block from a late 86 or 87 and swap everything over. Just a thought....

Bare blocks
Note not all the blocks have holes drilled and tapped for the up dated tension er, other than that they are pretty much the same.

Thanks everyone for the input, I appreciate your time and feedback.
I am aware that some of the earlier blocks are compatible with my 1988 internals, but perhaps a bit more information will give a more complete picture. I just bought the car three months ago, and while it did not have many maintenance records with it, it was low miles, had a great Carfax, and the local Porsche dealer inspection said it was in fantastic shape except for motor mounts. Then one day it spun a rod bearing. And upon teardown, I found out that the block is now cracked, a rod is broken, the crank is likely done, a valve spring is broken, and the cause of the oil usage was pretty bad valve guides and valve stem seals. So because it needs so much work, most of the Porsche mechanics around here suggested trying to find a good used motor to drop in it for now. Or donate $7500 for them to rebuild it... which is substantially more than the car is worth. I know that I am being particular, but for some stupid reason I want to stick with the M44/09 block, for the originality as well as the new tensioner mountings. I did have a quick look at a 1986 block and crank for sale around here, but my first impressions were that it didn't have the self tensioner mountings. Just my untrained eye though... DP 951, are you in the engine rebuilding trade? Unfortunately I need to do pretty thorough due diligence buying something as far away as Florida, as the freight costs to me will be killer! |
