whats going on with this forum no new posts?

Whats up here?

Its not just this forum, the whole 928 community is getting kind of "mature", plus half the US is frozen.

andy-gts 02-09-2019 06:11 AM

plus the vendors have us well covered and all cars are well cared for

honerboys 02-09-2019 08:30 AM

i think danglerb hit it - i'm guessing most of these cars don't see a lot of winter driving - i took mine out this past week between snowstorms just for a couple of miles of "exercise" - not a problem for you southern folks

I know that we have many interested owners and guests who do follow the 928 Tech Forum. Don't mean to be a downer about the number of posts sometimes -but have you ever noticed how often members are asked for advice and assistance here on PP only to have the thread left hanging ?

You never know if you helped solve the problem, screwed it up worse or he gave up and burned it down for the insurance...:)

There's only 19 posts on my page?

Mal81 02-11-2019 12:22 AM

We have a lot of lurkers. I know I was for several years. If you look at the thread views, there are still a lot of folks who are checking out the 928 section regularly.

^^^This. RL is certainly my go to for the most accurate and usually quickest tech advice on these cars. You just can't duplicate the wealth of knowledge there, and the deep history of tech knowledge in the old threads.

Some were wondering about the reason for the tentative slow down in the number of posts. At least we'll all know NOW where to get fast and accurate information....

Gomezoneill,
We were just waiting on you to start posting on this forum. :)

Older 928's may have better support here than RL, CI$ cars etc. Lots of drama on RL too still.

I'd like to second that opinion. I have been a member on here for some time even though I don't post much I always look in.
Owned my 928 S for 29 years now, and all it takes is relatively part time maintenance on her now, as all the issues have been gone through to leave me with a real nice car, everything bar the levelling system for the headlights are the only thing not working, but frankly it's not important to me as it doesn't last that long even when you fix it !. I've read some very good info on the CIS cars over those years on here, so thank you to all those that take the time to offer good advice.

I read the forum almost daily, but, haven't been doing much to my 928 lately but wash, drive , repeat. Even in always sunny Las Vegas we have been getting a plethora of liquid sun shine , so the 928 lives in the garage most of the time.
BTW- if any one has a good used 5 speed, clutch, etc. laying around... cheap, I would be interested. Dangler B has advised me all used transmissions probably need a rebuild, but maybe I'll get lucky.....

BC has a 2x rebuilt transmission for an early car for sale on RL-not cheap though

honerboys 02-15-2019 08:15 AM

what's a "cheap" transmission run?

Danglerb 02-16-2019 03:11 AM

BC has early G28/05 (I think), that BC went through, and then apparently Greg Brown passed over it, $3500. Some are noting it doesn't take many normally replaced parts to get in that neighborhood.

XLR8928 02-16-2019 12:11 PM

Wow, $3500 is way more than I want to spend. I guess I can live with rough shifting a little longer. Maybe in a few years, 928's will achieve enough of a collector status that I can just sell it and buy a nice 911....just kidding, not happening. ( I want a late model Maser, Aston, or Ferrari). ...
so in the mean time, I guess I'll keep looking for a wrecked 928 with good running gear. BTW- Mike,... your posts are always in the wee hours, don't you ever sleep :D?

I woke up at 3 today, PM, so sure I get plenty of sleep.

10 years ago I drove out to Ventura for a Porsche event that included a swap meet. Mostly Porsche shaped rust, but one guy had an early 5 spd with LSD and wanted $25 for it, nobody bought it by the time I left. Those days are gone.

Two years ago a handful of 928's showed up at pick a parts, nothing since as far as I have noticed and I have a list of cars I get an email on when they arrive anyplace in socal.

Keep in mind only something like 10 to 15% of 83+ are manual.
