Question Which 928 to buy?

I know the general rule is the best example or newer the better. But I am looking at getting a second porsche, and have been looking heavily at 928's & 944's. Due to their water cooling and better A/C. I only want a 5 speed. Any recomended reading, or suggestions would be appreciated. Lastly, I would like to keep the initial purchase under 10K.

These are just my observationsand to each his own.
All things aside you would probably get your best deal on a 944. 928's that are in top condition still demand a good dollar as compared to the 944 although you could probably pick up a 944turbo for what a good 928 would set you back. From my experience the 928's are fairly expensive to maintain and in some areas parts are harder to get (ie Canada).Driving the 928(auto) is a total pleasure as compared to the sometimes tasking
shifting of a 911 or 930, especially around town in traffic. The looks of the 928 are also very distinct a much more noticeable car
than the 944.
As far as transmissions go the early manuals had some problems.Try to find one with the BorgWarner synchros. I believe anything after 1987 is most desireable but some as early as 1985 were using them. Its a nice car to drive and you cant beat flipping up those front headlights!!
Good luck, let us know.
Gary
