exclamation point

i meant to ask this on my other post. memory isn't what it used to be for sure. what doe the exclamation point "!" mean on the instrument cluster? when the car is running it's lit up and when i put it in gear it flashes.

thanks in advance,
steve

That light means something is amiss in your central warning system circuit. Any other lights lit or flashing?

Check your PM. Problem solved!

Updated. thanks to IXLOR8 the solid light has been fixed. still having a bit of a problem with it though. When i put it in gear, it comes on and blinks. along with that the oil pressure drops to 0 and the red light on the oil pressure guage flashes. What would cause that?

thanks,
steve

Low oil pressure...

juVius 11-27-2006 03:18 PM

why would oil pressure go low only in gear? cause in neutral and park oil pressure is fine. i wish i knew more about cars...

thanks,
steve

oil pressure goes low(er) due to rpms coming down when you put it into gear.

my exclamation point comes on when the parking brake is not released. yours may be doing the same.

don't trust your gauges unless you have verified that they are accurate.

if the oil pressure is consistantly low when driving, it may just be bad instruments. the cluster has a metal strip that all of the gauges are connected to, and if the contacts are corroded (most seem to be with age), just clean them and they should operate better.

hope this helps-----

Because the RPMs drop when you put it in gear. IN nuetral and park the engine(and oil pump) is turning faster, therefore it builds more oil pressure than when in idle in drive.
