Fuel pump question

I have an '82 928 and have a leak at the fuel pump. I took apart the connections and installed new copper washers and reassembled. On start-up the pump was still leaking but on closer examination it appears to be coming from the seam in the pump where the internals go into the cylindrical casing (two pinch marks where the unit is sealed). Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a fix or am I looking at a new pump (ouch!). Thanks in advance. BTW, has anyone else also had problems re-installing the black plastic insulator over the electrical connections?
