86.5 5 spd, "rare" winning ebay bid was $21,150 a (0) feedback bidder, but bid at $21k was a high feedback ebayer.

I just love it when some one says [rare], [one of a kind], etc....
86.5??? I'd like to see documentation on this one, especially where it came from the factory with the S4 nose and tail and the body kit on it? sounds fishy to me, not to mention the high $$$ bids...... Then again, maybe my '80 Euro will sell for $30K with the hybrid in it......? -Russ

There is a thread on RL about the over priced stroker parts listed in the add. Not sure what was included with that "sale" (if it's an actual legit sale) however imo someone paid to much for that car.

Gee, I wonder what my 18k 86.5 red/black 2-time PCA Concours-winner car is worth if THAT car's worth 21k?

I don't think I would be willing to sell a pristine low mileage 928 for $20k, let them find their own and try to make it concourse for $20k.
I'd like to think these auctions are a sign that OB's are finally getting due recognition, but I suspect they are meaningless blips in an otherwise steady decline. |

I've discussed this with the misses a few times: I wouldn't consider offers less than 40k on my car: I'd never find another example with so few miles in such good shape. Is my price too high? maybe, but no plans to sell it so it's irrelevant.

What you don't want to think about when you have a nice car like that is the price you would have to accept if you had to sell it in less than a few months, like 30 days. Really pristine concourse winners might have somebody ready to pay a fair price, but deadlines are not kind to the selling price of old 928's.

Oh, I've learned that first hand as well. Back in '96, I was selling a very nice blk/blk 86.5 5-speed so that I could pursue racing my 951S. At $18,500 asking price (and no internet), I had zero calls/interest for 6 months. I sold it to some punk kid for about 13,500 cash. Then a week later (I'm not kidding), a PCA member called me out of the blues, super-excited for the $18.5k asking price! I ended up giving him the kid's # & the kid sold him the car for $18,500 the next week!.
I lost a good 9k on the car, the kid made 5k. Made me sick.

Car is still for sale, funny how those zero feedback bidders often don't come through.
