one month resto finally done on '88 5 speed w/29K!

A little over a month ago now, I purchased a true one owner, California 1988 S4 5 speed with only 29K on it. It was a great color combo of red over tan with no ugly side moldings. He had all service records since new and even the original California title, but the positives pretty much ended there. :( I've gotta tell ya', this one really put me thru my paces to return it to damn near concours condition. But it certainly didn't resemble a 29K car when I bought it, that's for sure. Mark at 928 Intl. can certainly verify that it's condition was less than perfect when I bought it, and danglerb just missed his shot at verification by one day! ;) It had alot of aftermaket crap like an Alpine CD player, an Alpine amp just laying on the passenger side floorboard, aftermarket wheels and so on. Personally, I hate aftermaket stuff, especially on low mileage 928's like this. And clean? Certainly not and very surprising for such a low mileage California car, but after alot of painstaking agony I finally put her all back to original by tracking down every little OCD thing that was missing, having it checked over from top to bottom by my tech, cleaning her beyond cleaning, and finally having it professionally buffed and waxed today at the local BMW dealership. They have the absolute best buff and wax guy I've ever come across. Anyway, I'm pretty proud of my month long project and the way it all finally turned out, that I'm throwing some pics on for your viewing and thoughts. Enjoy, or perhaps not. ;)

Looks great, is it for sale?

psychII 12-15-2007 05:48 AM

Wow, looks like she just rolled off the showroom floor!

Red Baron 12-15-2007 06:59 AM

Very sweet! No side strips!

Pauwl 12-15-2007 08:42 AM

Todd,

congratulations. Looks really great.

Please now sell it and go and save another! (or keep it, but the way you've done it you MUST go save another).

Thanks to all you guys for the comps! Yes, it is for sale, though I'm pretty sure I already have a seriously interested party in the car. Regardless, it's priced at $26,900. So, if anyone's genuinely interested in this car, feel free to call me on my cell at 317-506-3022 or at home at 317-823-4445.

I have alot more pics too. They just wouldn't fit into this one thread......

LOL! I think that total over dramatization will still make me chuckle 10 years from now! :D Only someone from Hollywood could create such a drama, tragedy and public spectical out of such an insignificantly small item. That whole ordeal kinda reminded me of one of those cheesy Hollywood gossip magazines, wouldn't you agree? Just for ****s and giggles, if you ever have some free time to kill, go back and dig up that old thread again. It's probably more amusing to read than going to see any of the new movies that are out and playing right now! ;)

But yeah, this one's a real treat! It's totally done, cleaned to the beJesus, and put up for good in my heated garage until the new owner either picks it up, or preferably ships it home. Either way, it'll never be driven by me again.........

Absolutely beautiful Todd.

Todd,
looks nice but you need to replace some of the stickers under the hood, and the one on the coolant expansion tank is missing... :)

MarkRobinson 12-17-2007 02:19 PM

Niiiiice. :)

icemang17 12-17-2007 06:17 PM

Todd
I also replaced the R12 sticker on my radiator.....I got it from an ebay guy that sold a kit of all the stickers on the car.....of course I only needed one...but at least I have them all now!

Very nice looking 928...the BEST color combo and year too....not that I'm biased or anything

Very nice, how about detailing my 87 Strosek!

I was fortunate enough to see this car in person tonight. While I’m no concourse judge; I can say that as far as condition, this is the nicest example of a 928 I’ve ever seen which is well over 100. I’d love to have it, but would be afraid to drive it. Someone is getting one very nice ride. I'm jealous.

Thank you Kurt, that was very nice of you to say. And yes, the new owner definitely knows he's getting a very nice ride, indeed! One of my top three of all time, I must say. ;)
