that's what happens when you have a very small community (928 owners) that keep some sort of look out for cars like this one.......

word gets around fast when it's a desirable (but not really desirable) car like this.

Or when the same car keeps running week after week after week. Hell, even the non-928 enthusiasts have gotta think somethings wrong by now too.

$15K will sell it right now, nothing more. It needs a break or change of venue.

You nailed that one on the head, If these sellers were smart they'd be on these message boards lurking, and take some tips to market the car correctly.

Buyers sometimes do the checking after winning the bid, start asking their mechanics questions, checking on the net, or show up and look the car over and back out or back out after an inspection. This one could sell many times before it stays sold.

You know what Sean, you've got a real problem, and it's not me.

I didn't start anything with you personally, and you would be well served to not attempt anymore with me.

If you won't behave, I won't invite you to the next show........

So in reality no one knows anything about this car at all.
Issue with the mileage - they all do - I never beleive any milage on a 928 unless its backed by some pretty good history.
Only one person has looked at it and with all due respect pointed out a couple of minor issues they all suffer from.
Engine change - many of the early GTS's had an engine change - not a bad thing if done by the factory.
Has anyone verified the engine number?
This car if bought for $18k could be the bargain of the year.
I would like to know more factual information on the car if anyone has some?
I guess the only way is to go look at it myself 8>)
It has a bad rap but nobody can say why?

This car will never sell for more than this dealer sells it for, and it going to want money put into it right away. I'm not seeing more than an at best average deal. It may be the cheapest GTS sold this year, which I kind of doubt, just the cheapest widely known sale is more likely, but next time it sells it will still be the cheapest one sold.

How much more would it cost to take a baby step up the ladder and buy a clean, no title issue, no wreck GTS? Less than $10k? Doesn't take long to spoon that into tired 928.

I bought mine for $28k 6 years ago with 60k miles and a clean everything.
Everyone on the old email Rennlist told me I was mad because it may be this and it may be that. I went ahead and bought it because when I went to see it I could not find anything wrong with it. Had I listened to all the stories I would have passed. Maybe the same here.

So what is the engine number so we can verify the change?

the engine change would be the big problem for me-----If I were to buy a GTS, it better have a GTS engine, not an S4.......regardless if the factory changed it out or not. if the factory did change it out, and did not disclose the lesser engine, they could be held liable for selling what was not correctly advertised, so to speak. I would imagine that Porsche's lawyers would be all over that-----

if a dealer replaced the original 5.4L engine due to warranty claim and no 5.4L availability, that would be a separate issue.

the fact that it doesn't accelerate any faster than a Chevy Lumina (per Adam Tiffin) would really make me nervous about buying it. Rumored flood damage, body damage, title issues, are just another list of things to steer clear of.

If you go into this with the idea of returning it to it's original state (IE: correct engine, running properly, repairing other issues) you may be looking at tens of thousands of dollars over the initial purchase price.........

If it sold for say, $15K, you may have to put another $15k in it to make it right, maybe more.

In the end of this, you can buy a pretty nice GTS for that same ($30K) money, and just drive it home without the hassle------

S4 engine - you are right thats a deal stopper.
Worth maybe $10k to $14k tops.
What a shame.

Roger---

Adam Tiffin (mrtiffin) is closest to the car, maybe you can get him to run by there again and get the engine stamping number off of it......

(I'd do it for you, but I won't be finished with the Santana tour until week after next---as I said, I'll bet it doesn't sell before I get off tour)

tell Adam I sent you---

Ha!

four days to go and only $1900 away from the by-it-now price......

maybe it will find a home before I'm done touring----

(wonder if the prospective owner really knows what he's bidding on......?)

Well, if the current high bidder is actually the selling dealership, they do! Otherwise, I truly feel for the possible weener of this auction.

Honestly, the question you would really have to ask yourself is; how much would I be willing to spend on a widebody S4 with previous paint and/or bodywork with actual mileage unknown? I would think somewhere around $12-$15K seems fair. It is still officially a '93 model year GTS, though it being a '93 is really the only thing '93 left on the car, and certainly not the 5.4 liter engine........
