I would not drive the auto personally. I like being able to keep the car in the power band. Try taking someone on a rolling 40 with an auto... The auto downshifts nicely at 60, however a 5 speed can still downshift faster.

I guess the feel of the 5 speed is very personal. SOme say it's the worst ever, some love it. I love it.

The power band on my car is from about 2500 on. I can't see that being a problem.

An automatic allows you to point your 9mm gat out the passenger window for efficient drive bys. Come on we all learned that in Scarface..

I was really enjoying this thread, and then it ended.

There's obviously no definitive "answer" to the auto vs manual debate. Mine is an auto and I've always felt like a bit of a second class citizen because of it, more because of what others say than my own preferences, if I'm honest. I do like driving manual cars yet have never driven a 5-speed 928.

I'm seriously considering doing a manual conversion but concerned about regretting it.

I put a lot of stock in Roger's opinion and he has me thinking I should leave it as is and just learn to use it properly. Sounds like there's more to it than just sticking it in 'D'.

5l32v4c,

Forget doing the manual conversion and just buy another 928 with a 5 speed. :)

Easier said than done. Fortunately, the donor car sold so the decision was made for me. Problem solved.......for now
