Replacing ignition lock cylinder in '80 928

Hi Everybody.

I am going to attempt to replace my lock and tumbler in my ignition ( where ignition key goes in ) in my 1980 928S Euro. Does anyone have any ideas what is needed to do this? I took my car to a locksmith today and he thought one might have to take part of the dash above the gages out.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

pretty sure there is also a nice guide with pictures, but I didn't find it in a quick search.

Remove the Pod and it will all be there in front of you. There are a couple Plates under the Steering wheel that need to be removed (3 or 4 screws), remove the Steering Wheel/Signal Stalk, then 2 (10mm) bolts holding the Pod down. Should be enough slack in the wiring to let the Pod hang.

In this picture I've drilled-out the pin that retains the lock cylinder and am threading the hole to accept a threaded allen screw instead.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270145835.jpg

Here's the igntion lock and key:

On my '79 to the left (towards the center of the column) of the lock cylinder on the underside of the aluminum bar is a plug with two wires that plug into a contact. I think I see the wires in this picture.
What is this contact for?

I did exactly what Lanseer is doing. I threaded it and put a small allen screw in mine.

IIRC, that is the sensor that detect a key in the ignition. On the Stepson, I have the wires from the factory, but no sensor. I thought that was strange.
