Ground Strap bleh

Suffered many months with battery ground strap paranoia, eventually called Waytek and ordered two fancy ones with some fancy adhesive lined shrink.

Bleh.

Straps look great, cost $12 each, another $8 for the shrink, but like $13 shipping and almost another $5 for handling under $35, total $43 something for two.

First attempt at doing the shrink, it shrank, pulled away from the terminal lug about half an inch. So I put another short piece of shrink on and tried again, close, but still pulled back some AND split. Third time I was more careful with the heat gun. Adhesive did a nice seal, but I think a dab of something to seal and regular shrink next time.

Worst part, the end near the lug is too stiff to make the 90 degree bend up out of the battery box (big battery model year 83). I don't think its the three layers of shrink, but haven't checked the bendability of the other cable without shrink yet.

No real difference on dash gauge, still shows barely 12v, maybe a teeny bit better, but battery seems to have a full charge, so why worry?

Battery is a Bosch, not sure how old, rated 1000 CCA, my Solar BA-5 meter shows it fully charged at 12.5v but a fail at 778 CCA. Handy meter, car starts fine, so no idea when or what I will replace battery with. Other car has same Bosch and shows pass 885 CCA.

SOLAR BA5 100-1200 Cold Cranking Amps Electronic Battery Tester : Amazon.com : Automotive

Maybe strap picts later in the week, but it just won't bend close enough to the post connection.

I replaced my ground strap for about $42. It worked just great. All I had to do was put it on. If I find where I bought it I will post supplier.

Bought a pair of ground cables off eBay a few years back for my 81 Euro. Looks and works perfectly without the headache of heatshrinking

I can't remember off hand what kind of car they were for, but I believe the seller was from a Dodge Dealership. It was for the rear battery and the engine grounds. Different sizes but came in a single auction.

I may have a chance to mess with mine more on Thursday, thinking bend "while" heating. I also have one strap with no shrink on it to check.
