S+ cams for everyone..

Still waiting on my cams from JME.. sigh.

Looks like Carl has made a deal to make the same cam. 4 week wait and a couple hundred less than I paid.

US cars would benefit greatly from the 16vR2 cam and a set of Euro S heads.

Here's Carl's link:
http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/camshafts.php

Name Intake lift/duration Exhaust lift/duration Comments
OEM (baseline) .432” / 220 deg .394” / 210 deg 78/79 Euro
928MS 16vS1 .471” / 232 deg .432” / 220 deg (a)
928MS 16vR2 .506” / 246 deg .480” / 234 deg (b)

4v cams also available.

BTW I am now selling my extra set of Euro S cams, PM if interested. Need to offset buying and extra set of these cams...

I don't plan to reveal the source of those cams, but it's not JME.

I talked to the source company two days ago about doing a set of the 16vR2's, but I still have a few questions about how well that profile will work. The closest JME cam is the .503 lift 8SR with slightly different duration, and it was right on the edge of not working with stock brains.

This could really put a spike in the heart of Euro S cam prices, but any 16v activity is good in the long run. Euro S heads are what I bet start getting scarce.

Mmmmm........why not......the list of cam grinders is pretty small.

if you're really serious about making upper rpm power, you should entertain the idea of larger valves w/smaller diameter stems, cam followers from that crazy guy up in the high desert (who's name escapes me at the moment), and then a full head workup.....

But, as you say, the cam profiles are near the limit of the stock spark boxes, and then you're into stand alone ecm's and such.....

a slippery slope>>>>>>

I don't think it would be polite. Carl works hard to find things that benefit the whole 928 community, and represents at the track, not to mention I think most owners would be best served buying through Carl. Dealing directly with this company hasn't been all that smooth, witness N20 waiting a couple months for his cams.

I don't know that I am serious about upper RPM power, at least upper as in over 7k due to oiling issues.

Here is the blurb from JME on the profile I am considering from him.

****************
P/RH 8SR-14 for 944 performance/928 race
Best power band 4000-6900 rpm. 1000 rpm idle. .503 cam lift (In & Ex) with near stock base circles. Uses 944 Turbo or race valve springs (recommended) for best results. Motronic chip must have rev limit raised for best results. 25+ bhp over stock camshaft with race exhaust. Needs custom Motronic chip or aftermarket engine management. No equivalent competitors cam. Used where lift is un-restricted but racing cam is allowed.
****************

Valves would be sized according to the bore I decide on, and as it sits I have to wonder if that cam has a chance in hell of passing a smog test. I am thinking maybe, better than 50/50 with a V8 instead of the 944 to smooth out the idle a bit within the test rpm range (thinking 900 rpm). Sharktuning I think is a given.

sorry Mike...I wasn't really serious.

Carl is pretty good about having other shops do a lot of his work for him, mostly because they can get the stuff out quicker and they're set up to do it, where as he may not be able to or needs to devote more time to other things.....like going fast.

Just more stuff from him to spend the wife's walmart money on.......
