83S Timing Belt gone -- How bad?
It get's me riled up just to think of it ... the SOB who did the job last, broke the tensioner shoulder bolt and then tack welded it back together! There's a special level in H**l reserved for that sort.
Anyways, it obviously didn't last and I ended up at the side of the road. We put another timing belt on and tensioner bolt, but we only get compression on 3 of the 8 cylinders. How bad off am i? I thought since it was non-interference it'd be less damage, but is it toast? tia R |

Well, first of all you need to tell us what year 928 you are talking about...

I think in is title it says 83, which would put him in a 16v non-interference. Correct?

Lost a belt in an 82 Us, did no damage but the euro has a higher cam so it may have damaged the pistons if under high Rpm's.

If the belt is now on correctly and you only have compression on 3 of 8, something is wrong.
Is this a US or Euro car? Regardless, the thing to do is sort out the trouble and fix it. 928's are world class cars that are 30 years old, once in awhile they will have some issues. |
