Summer Rims

I'm looking into getting a 85' 928s and would be getting a seprarate set of rims to put Summer tires on. Ideally I'd like 17s but 16s or 18s might be fine, anyways i was wondering how wide you can go on the 85' and if anybody puts some of the more modern porsche rims on. What rims do you guys use.
Thanks

What is your objective?

I am still running 16" S4 type dish wheels, should have 225/245 fr/rear, but I'm using 225 all around. Bigger will fit, but I'm thinking about 8" wide in front and about 9" wide in the rear or even 8" front and back, so maybe 245 front and 275 rear, but I don't want to lose the ability to break the tires loose with throttle in second.

Well my objective is to figure out how wide of a tire I can go with and what looks good. I would like to lose the ability being able to spin the tires in second gear. I would rather put the power to the ground than wear out tires prematurely

Its all in the link.

Whats the widest tire is a common question, answer depends on your personal preferences. Plenty of options to consider in the linked threads.

John,

you'll need to be very specific as to offsets.

just when the manufacturer says it'll fit a certain Porsche, the minute you get them you may find out otherwise.

9's on the front sounds aftermarket, as most P-car OEM rims were 8.5 or less.

I run 315/25/19 with 19x11 rims et 67mm offset. it's the largest you can go on an OB (that I know of). You will need a small 7mm spacer to keep the rim off the suspension and you will need to roll the fender lip as a precaution. You may still experience some rubbing on the inside fender well, depending upon how loose your suspension is.

there's a lot to choose from out there, depending on your taste and how big your wallet is......

Danglerb- thanks but the link doesn't work, it gives me an error message. Does it work for you?

rhjames- the wheels I'm looking at are aftermarket and are custom size HRE made for like I said a 996 which is a 911. (it was a base carrera). The sizes are 18X9 Front 18X10 back. So I basicly came to the conclusion that if basic 996 911 rims fit correctly and the offset is right (do they) and your able to fit 18X9F, 18X10R on a 928 (with out rolling fenders ect.) that rims made for a 996 911 at that size will fit(or am I adding apples and oranges? rhjames what year is your car that you have such wide tires? THe late models have wider fenders I think?

Hope this isn't confusing. I just want to make 100% sure If I am going to invest
Thanks in advance
PS rhjames you sound like you have an awesome car. Post a pic

hey John,

yes, you will need to check the rear wheel offsets (just to be sure).

65/67 mm offset would be OK.

my 928 is a 1980 Euro. your 85 would be able to handle the same as mine, with the modifications I have described. an 18 x 10 inch wheel and a smaller tire (than what I run) probably should have no issues.

on HRE's website they only list the 997--not 996, but 10 different wheels for it.....so, I can't say it's a done deal.

Just trying to help.

Rims

I bought a set of rims from tirerack.com and they did everything right. Mounted , balanced, ride is great.

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/results.jsp?autoMake=Porsche&autoModel=928&autoYear=1985&autoModClar=

I am very happy with these rims and how they handle on the car.
