Door panels are finally done!

Well, I had the passenger door mostly finished months ago, but I got side tracked with mechanical issues (always a higher priority) and then track days but I finally have both panels completely done.

Material is just upholstery grade Ultrasuede. Not something that everyone's going to like, but this is my first attempt at doing an interior so I wanted something cheap and easy to work with. I think this is probably going to be my stopping point on the interior for a while. My skills are not where they need to be to attempt the front seats and there's a good chance I'll want some more harness friendly seats soon anyway.

I'm not real happy with the speakers, the pods turned out okay but the grills on those Blaupunkts look like ass, IMHO.

VERY NICE MY FRIEND!!!! i need a COMPLETE interior redo myself and you have given me many ideas! i like the colors. they match up really well. and despite the fact that i dont think suede was an original material or a casual interior material, it looks REALLY good and comfy! nice job!

Does Suede shrink in time and heat like normal leather. If so, that should tighten up nicely. Did you sew all the stitching yourself? If so, great job and we'll keep that here.

Mmm...never thought about suede.

and why not, heck we've got cars with cow hides in them, bird skins and now suede!

the more I look at these pics, the better I like it---far removed from the mundane vinyl plastic looking stuff.

Nice job!

Marsalis did a car in suede for the Ventura Porsche show that won best of show I think.

Fading from UV is the major issue, not sure on shrinking, but its a much more compliant fabric than the vinyl or leather.

It's not actual sued, it's "Ultrasuede" a microfiber similar to, but not the same as Alcantera. I don't have great hopes for fade resistance since this is not designed for automotive use, but shrinkage shouldn't be much of a problem. The material costs are such that if it lasts a couple years I'll be happy with that and will then consider doing it again in leather or vinyl.

I did the sewing myself and it looks good at a distance but is far from perfect. Compared to what I started with though, I'm pleased with how it looks.

This is how it was when I picked it up.
