78 plug wires

anyone have a set of good used plug wires they are willing to part with...i think my wires are braking down under load....and im at the end of my 928 budget...i dont mind paying for them...just cant afford to buy new for now!...i've been off work for 2 weeks now...(slipped a disc in my back).....runs real nice sitting in my garage... started driving it around the neighborhood... it starts off good...slowly goes down to 5-6 cyls ..then "pops" and takes off on all 8 cyls "great"!...then back to 5-6 cly again.. runs so rough to the point of stalling..turn the key off starts up good again....i have done the "green" wire to the dizzy...plugs,cap, rotor are new ...thanks...John
PS...not giving up...just run out of funds

In a dark location, in the garage, at night, etc. raise the hood and use a spray bottle to mist a little water and see if you get any light show.

Use an ohmmeter to check each wire for continuity. The wire itself should be very low ohms, but the boot to the spark plug should be about 2.9k.

928Intl sells an econo set for $75 where you reuse your old boots and just replace the wires.

If you get some used wires, make sure to test them and use just the good ones and only replace the bad ones.

Maybe check the cap and rotor.

Hate to ask a stupid question, but how do you separate the wire from the boot? I'm assuming it is just to pull hard on it, but didn't want to do that in fear of ripping something apart. Sometimes its just my luck to break something trying to satisfy my curiosity.

my 928 doesnt have the original wires...just some cheap looking ones...and it only does this while under load re;driving...runs fine sitting in the garage...i did try the dark room for arcing...starts to break down after driving a couple blocks from the house...some times it gets worse....other times...it will let out a POP...and its back on all 8 cyls again......John

Rupesy,
if you have the good wires they unscrew from the boot, fancy little crimped on fitting on the end of the wire.

getting better

OK guys...some update...im getting those wires of Ifausty. (thanks)..got the car running a lot better today...i put my CIS gauge on the system....pressure was so high...it blew the needle off, on my gauge!!..no kidding!...seems Mike had it set way too high for street use!.removed all the washers off the pressure reg in the CIS dist'..untill it was at about the right readings....its still running a little hairy (bad wires)...but i can leave rubber on the road...and up my driveway!! to find out my car also has LSD...two nice black lines heading into my garage!!...did a hard U-turn...spins the car around to face the wrong way!..LOL.....as they say at that famous scottish restaurant "im loving it!!"

Actually the system pressure was reading in the factory range when I adjusted it by adding the shims you saw. The main mixture "adjustment" involves moving the thing in the WUR which must be done off the car, it would have been foolish to adjust mixture by cranking up system pressure. I have no idea why you saw that. You have my cell# that I pm'ed you, feel free to chat if you need help.
