Life Sucks Right Now...

Just when I thought all was good with the engine, my luck was just getting kick started.
Well, got the new fuel pump on (even though it's the wrong one thanks Mike... J.K.)
and the car started up on it's own and was running great. A few seconds later it starts growling again, DAMN! I put it up on jack stands pull off the lower bellhousing cover (easier to do now, without removing exhaust because I only used the forward most four bolts instead of six!) and sure enough the flexplate moved again! I drenched the bolt in locktight and tightened it to 70 ft/lbs and it still moved!?!?
Well, I came up with an idea.
I set the flexplate where it should be. started the car and it ran fine again. Then I drilled a hole through the shaft and put a hardened bolt through it, it's not going to move now!!! HAHAHA!

Well, the car ran fine for a few then growled again and now smokes profusely. I guess the thrust bearings are shot.

Have you measured the crank end play?

Thrust bearings don't growl or smoke as far as I know.

Compression test after checking crank end play.

Is there a write up for checking end play? When I was under the car, I couldn't move the crank for or aft with a crowbar? Please let me know and I will get on it tomorrow.
Do the bearings make that sound when they go bad? it is a horrible grinding noise...
