Ignition switch replacement
The return spring in the ignition switch has given up, and the key does not return from the start to run position on its own. I see that the switch mechanical part and electrical part are available separately, and I'm assuming i only need the electrical part ( 964-613-012-00).
Anyone care to confirm for me, also, can this be replaced without pulling the instrument cluster? TIA |
Isn't the electrical part just that round plug on the backside of the Switch. I would think the actual metal assembly would have the return spring inside. Not positive though. By the way, the Compressor you gave me works great. Thanks again Neil!

The ignition lock (the part you put the key in) does not have any return spring built into it.
If you pull the lock out, when you insert the key in it, it will turn freely from the off position all the way through to what would be the start position. |
Leo, I can't tell from the parts lists, so i am hoping someone has replaced this and will chime in. Good news on the compressor, i just need to get my system recharged now.

Thanks, that was the confrimation I was looking for. Now just need to order the part. Looks to be common to a lot of Porsche, maybe Pioneer on Miramar even has one!

The last 3 parts i called 928intl on they did not have new or used ( which suprised me) , their stock seems to be very low on small parts, good on the big ($$) items.

I stock the ignition switch for $62.07 and only sell the Porsche one.
To many problems reported with the after market ones. |
Thanks Roger, got one here in SD, cost a little more, genuine , and no shipping costs.

I remember when my eBay Ignition Switch broke apart. The symptoms were no return spring action. I ended up buying one from 928 intl and it had the Return Spring action back.
Is this the part you bought? http://www.mailordercentral.com/928i...6461301200.JPG |
If it's not on that pictured switch, it must be on the harness part that plugs on the back of the pictured switch.

Good deal Neil, glad you got it sorted out. Yeah, certain stuff you MUST get OEM. I learned the hard way.
