"In case there is a mistake?"

Teutonic culture is always fascinating. I enjoy their precision every time I drive my car. And when I've walked down streets in Germany, I have noted how people there will not cross streets until the crosswalk sign says to. And when on occasion someone does "jaywalk", the elderly German ladies at the curb are screaming and yelling and pointing their fingers!

Verbs sometimes go at the end of sentences in German. Wild guess in case of errors check meaning the box.

Im Fall eines Fehlers ankreuzen

"Im Fall eines Fehler ankreuzen"

If its a checklist and a box next to the sentence, it means:

"Check (this box) in case of failure"

If its checked, it means that that particular component was examined and it reported a failure. In the case of your instrument cluster, I believe that it is a sheet from the original quality control department at the manufacturer.

The practice of many many people when they buy a new part is to stick the old one in the box the new part came in.
