Period afternarket seats

The seats on one of my '83 928S are kinda ratty and was thinking of replacing them with period aftermarket seats, Does anyone here have any ideas of which aftermarket seats were popular on 928s - Recaro, Scheel...?

Factory Porsche seats are about the best made, a few people put in even more expensive Recaro seats or cheaper racing seats, but the best value are factory seats.

Replacing ratty originals, best bet is to find some nice originals. I think Recaro makes the originals for Porsche. Really good aftermarket seats are pretty expensive; back in the '90's I paid >1000 for a pair of nice recaros. Can't find anything on ebay to replace yours? I just picked up a pair of really nice black ones, '86 with heat, for $340, look and feel like new. They come along once in a while. Just keep watch.

As much as I love the look of some of the Aftermarket seats, like the ones posted, I would be more inclined to stick with the 928 seats. I did get a set from DanglerB from an S4 and put them in my OB. Made by Recaro. They really look like they belong. Those ones posted could be good looking too if the material matched up. I bet they feel great though.

it's hard to beat the 928 seats for comfort and stability in time period aftermarkets
I say recover the originals, or have Paul convert them to sport seats and recover

Thanks for all your suggestions I think you are all correct in that the originals look best. I thought that perhaps there were some aftermarket seats that were cheaper to buy, lighter in weight, and would also looked like they belonged in the 928.
I'll keep looking for a pair of cashmere sport seats at a decent price.

My drivers side seat left thigh support (where the seat controls are mounted) feels loose, or broken. Is there an easy fix, or will welding be involved?

If i remember correctly. The switches are held by a couple screws under the cover which is also held by a couple screws. I would either tighten the screws under the cover or if that doesn't help, remove those screws and pull the plate holding your switches to find out why screws aren't holding.

I would install the factory ones myself. Have a local shop re-do them. I bet you would be suprised at the cost. I bet is half of what most the 928 guys want.

What is half the cost? Throw out some numbers.

I'm obviously not in the business so cannot comment on what his local shop will charge. However I had both front seats on mine done for about $200 and I provided the new covers. I got them from leatherseats.com

Theres a thread on rennlist regarding it if you would like to find it. UserID dan87951. Seat covers were around $600-$700 if I remember and installation was $200. Two brandnew sport seats with red piping for under a grand. Below is a picture of the seats. I guess the point of my post is local venders should be competent to recover Porsche seats for quite a bit less than the Porsche only guys. Just do your homework.

Those look great Dan...how long ago was this done? How have the covers stood up to real life use??? My wheels are turning now.

After looking at their web site they do not offer any 928 seat covers.

I was very impress with the seat covers. The leather hide was just about as thick as the factory units. So far the seats still look new. I had the seats done in 2007 and maybe have put 5000 miles on the car sice than so they really haven't been used as much. I would call them to see what they can do for you.
