beat up old seats

Hey guys,

Do you know which seats are relatively inexpensive and that work well with the 928S? Or should I go ahead and reupholster the leather? Or go even cheaper and just get a good seat cover? Do they have good leather seat covers?

But if I go all out, which seats are the best? Do the good seats fit in with the seat controls or do you control them manually?

Almost all Porsche seats fit in all Porsches, wiring may not be plug and play, but not too hard.

Start with cheap seat covers until you know what you want. The best seats can cost a small fortune, and options can double that.

Tell us about your car and post some pictures.

I bought DanglerB's electric seats from an S4. They bolted right up to my OB (1981). They are a little off but not by much, kinda works it's way once you tighten the bolts. Wiring is easy.

Seat Covers <--- Ewwwwww

Like Mike says "know what you want first."

Terrible Pic of my OB Seats, but you get the idea.

My S4 Seats installed

Keep your eyes on ebay. I picked up a close to perfect pair of black 928 seats, both with heat, for I think it was $330 plus shipping. Much cheaper than recovering or buying new ones. Just have to be patient...........they show up eventually.

I installed new front seat covers from Alan Gunn leather; this was 9 years ago.

-One of the several butteaters that owned my car had the brain-surgeon idea to install **vinyl**! Seat covers in this car. In this Porsche 928!

[Vinyl is for chevettes-]

Well, after about 4 months of loosing more skin every time I climbed out of the car than the average skin-graft patient...I decided to not only replace the stupid vinyl but the WHOLE INTERIOR. I bought champagne carpet, black seat leather [dirt-proof!] and had the leather dash and doors/side panels stripped and re-tanned to match the carpet. I had the rear seats re-tanned black to match the front seats, and then bought black floor mats.

The guy in Orlando who did the re-tanning wanted to do a bunch of work with the piping; I told him negative, but I've thought about that since. It probably wasn't a bad idea. For a while, I had a red 5-point racing harness installed; I thought the red looked good with the black and gold interior, and it did instill a certain look. I wanted to try Autocross racing, but I have NO time at all, and I eventually sold the harness.

-I showed this guy the "Op-Art" interior, and he was certain that he could produce that paint job on Porsche leather. He said that he could be certain that he would be able to mask it off so that there was no "bleeding", or stray marks that detract from the effect. I stayed away, and in retrospect I am glad I did, because...although his leather stripping/re-tanning work was pretty good, when I got my car back it was a MESS. Many panels were loose, he lost fasteners, and he didn't get the "rings" right on the drivers seat. I was just happy to have the car back, since he had it for a MONTH!!! Well, it came out good, but not the driver's seat: he got the rings all wrong, and I'm working with Paul Champagne to get this right.

He's a great guy, even though he owns a 928 partially upholstered in ostrich hide~

Hey! How about those Dolphins yesterday....good game!

One of my cars came with a cheap set of Pepboys type fabric seat covers, and they would be fine until you do better.
