Search craigslist and other sources. There are many really nice ones that have similar service excellence and tons new parts and literally need nothing at half this price. Its a buyers market right now.

thanks for your info Red, however i would disagree, a lot of these cars will need most if not all of the list I posted, if your car doesnt have an extensive inspection and repairs,
then you should be good with your hands and the craftsman tool box, as eventually you will need to fix these systems.
If you were in my neighborhood and you did own a 928 and you didnt want to fix it yourself then you would want to have me work on it for you, i would do a thorough job and it would be done well.
I have repaired approximately 17 cars from the Rocky Mountain Sharks Owners club in the last 2 years( out here) and prior to this I have worked at Motorsport in Utah, for a few years restoring 928s in SLC.
As far as searching C list or any other you should figure that you will usually spend an equal amount to the purchase price to repair all of the little things, when you buy a less expensive car.
And if you dont already know this you should buy the most expensive sorted car you can afford, preferably from a mechanic as the car will be more sorted and will usually have less things needing to be repaired.
Of course there is some fun in buying a fixer upper, as it might give you more a feeling of accomplishment as you repair all of the things that you can find not working

My two cents, maybe 3% of the 928's offered up for sale at any point in time are nice ones that should seriously be considered for purchase. Exceptional cars are almost never offered for sale.

the only thing i would add for me is,
that if I can find a full time job this car will not be sold.
As Mike points out good running 928s are usually kept by the owners as they know what they have.
There are lots of fixer upper 928s in the market, the trick is to be able to figure out the parts that need to be worked on then repairing everything you can find not functioning as it should, this will result in a reliable car that will make many miles, for many years.

Sorry about the job thing man. I had a big scare last year when I went to take another job which paid $20k more and then got laid of within 5 months. Scared the hell out of me! I was lucky I didn't burn any bridges as I left my previous employer and was able to go back. It was the scariest 1 week of unemployment in my life. Life always works out eventually

I bought 5 86.5's last year. 2 were 5 speeds.... as such, I guess I hear the comment about the price ~however~

Merlins car should be worth more than $6500.... given the excellent care. At $10k, though it's not my business...... looks to be fishing for a whale. Catch a Tuna and eat Merlin....

Mason thanks for your thoughts, I will point out that if you had my car and decided to part it out.

You would not have to test anything as every thing works, and thats not a tuna helper.
Happy thanksgiving my friend, Stan

Well the car is now sold, 11/25/09, so a future 928 owner got a great car.
Thanks for all of your kind thoughts on the sale of this car, Happy Thanksgiving Stan
