Iris crashed and now won't start

To make a long story short, Iris got wrecked. Not too bad but Mason, I'll be needing some fenders and a hood and a good nose piece and front sproiler. I know you worked hard polishing these and I'm sorry. I wasn't driving is the only consolation I can offer.

Anyway, the car won't start. Assuming fuel safety switch? Help?

Danglerb 02-05-2010 10:41 AM

Sorry to hear you crunched.

Please be more precise in "not start", doesn't crank, doesn't fire, fuel pump doesn't run?

Mrmerlin 02-05-2010 11:22 AM

sorry to hear of the crash I hope no body got hurt.
so do you have any pictures??
What is the car not doing??
need more info, check the hot post connections and the ignition modules on the front valance

vdubr928 02-05-2010 02:57 PM

No, wasn't any injuries. I'll get more info when I get her home and tear in. Had it towed to the shop my ins. uses for estimates. Really was just wondeing if there was a crash interupt. I'm hoping to just drive it home from there. There were no fluids on the ground so maybe a possiblity. Get the fenders off and see how bad it is. I have a friend that can jerk the chassis straight pretty cheap and I can have him repaint the fenders and polish the aluminum to duplicate the current sceme. Sorry, no pics yet but I will post my progress.

Anyway, if it can be driven i'll be doing most of the work at the house here. If not then I'll just have to let them fix it. Hoping to get it started.

Starter is turning but either no spark or no fuel. I didn't look that much at it. I was pretty dissapointed. :(

Merlin, I'm not so familiar with the underhoods of the newer model yet. I've just been driving it and working on the interior. By module... Do you mean similar to the bosch spark box on the pass inner fender on my 82? Also on my 82 there is the resistor pack on the drivers side for coil voltage drop? I guess those are the obvious places to start if there is no fuel pump interupt on this model. Guess I'll hit the FSM.

There is no inertia fuel pump safety switch on your 928. Once the body is stretched back into shape you can go after the symptoms. If it was dmaged enough to need frame straightening, you probably don't want to risk damahing the motor if it's moved around, getting a fire going if a fuel line is damaged, or causing an electrical problem with battery cables rubbing against the wrong things. IIWM (if it was mine) I'd disconnect and maybe remove the battery, disconnect the engine brains if this is the later car with LH? and EZ? modules before any welding is done (even the panel pull-out studs are welded on), and maybe drain the tank.

I'm with you bob. Haven't really looked at the car yet. Hood was a little bent and the nose got ripped off. I almost got around him. Anyway, I suppose if the car won't start and there's no safety switch then it must be bad enough. I'll update next week. Probably won't see the car again till monday.

I thought you weren't driving?

vdubr928 02-05-2010 09:15 PM

My wife totally let go of the wheel to cover her face when he pulled out in front. Didn't even hit the brakes till right before impact. Maybe had 15 feet to stop though so still would have hit hard enough to put her in the shop so I havn't been hard on her. I jerked the wheel and yelled brakes... lol Guessing impact around 20 mph. Other driver was ticketed. insurance already notified. Should have a check next week. Car actually got broken into and my double din nav unit stolen just last week. This will be the second insurance claim in less than a month on the car.

vdubr928 02-05-2010 09:19 PM

Only the second time she's driven the car by the way. Bummer, she feels bad.

Landseer 02-05-2010 09:59 PM

Don't let her feel bad about it.

Doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Really, not a bit.

Total bummer! Who was driving? My wife is terrified of driving mine (says I'm
too picky), and I've already told my 21 y.o. son hands off.
My guess is the collision might have knocked a relay, or connector loose.

****. Sorry to hear this bad news :( Oh man.... Glad nobody hurt- and damage not too bad.

Did the radiator touch the cooling fan? I have your back on replacements- and if you are going to duplicate the polish I will be so happy you do.... but don't feel pressure, just paint it and drive it if the polish is a hassle.

No spark or fuel huh...wiggle the ignition relay, and the fuel injection relay. they need it once in a while anyway.

vdubr928 02-06-2010 04:35 PM

I'll figure it out soon as I get her home. No coolant on the ground and the car was plenty warmed up so would have know. Didn't see anything beeding. Really thik this will be:

Bumber suppot - think most the lights made it but I'll get back to you once I get a good look.
Set of bondo free fenders, Since they will be getting polished. I'll make the insurance pay for it. It was custom.

Same on the hood. Need a good one. and a pad since this one was good.

front bumper, No way it can be saved. wonder it the brand new rubber you put in made it?

Gonna need that paint from you so I can get it matched.

Unless I bent some headlight stuff then I think I'm good for parts once I figure out why she quit. Maybe she was just scared. I only turned it over for a second anyway and nothing sounded out of place. Start her on to the machine and pull straight the outter rails, paint, assemble.

Still have to wait till monday for any answers.

vdubr928 02-06-2010 04:36 PM

Oh and most if not all of the front sproiler. Bummer

chesireIsugaree 02-07-2010 09:51 AM

Maybe the dual ignition amps mounted on the front above the rad got unplugged or broken.

2Quick4u928 02-08-2010 12:16 AM

Not knowing your early model, I would say the same as chesire as I had the same symtoms as you described on my 88' in the past. Turned out needed to replace both ignition modules but is also nice having another 928 hehe.

Hope this helps....
