928 next to Panamera

I walked out of the local Publix today [sorry: Publix is the grocery store in Florida], and since I practice Egyptian parking [meaning that I park out in B F Egypt at all times to avoid door dings~], I had a bit of a drive to come out of the store on Sunrise Blvd in Fort Lauderdale. I rounded the corner, and suddenly...what did I see? A Panamera! Parked at the curb, in the fire lane. That is rude and stupid, but my thoughts went IMMEDIATELY to my digital camera, sitting next to my wallet on the drivers' side tray! I quickly pulled up next to the curb and used my rear-view mirror to back up the the Panamera. What I didn't realize was that the Panamera owner was sitting in the car, and he saw everything I was doing. He kept putting his car in reverse....and his backup lights were flashing at me, telling me that he wasn't comfortable with what I was doing. Fine, I stopped what looked like 6 feet/2 meters, but it was actually quite a bit more and the picture sucks as a result! Oh well. He's probably someone like the PO of my car, who was proud to tell me that his mechanic was a "German", and I suspect that if you asked him to show you the car, he would point to the Porsche shield on the hood first. And the first thing he would say is that it is "gold plated".

-ANYWAY......Here's the picture! That car is FAR better in person than in pictures, but I cannot get over how big it actually is!

N!

Nice pic. Did you talk to the Richardhead in the Panamera? I don't care what anyone thinks, but I like the Panamera.

When I took this pic, looking out the back window... I really thought I was getting close. And the Panamera owner was getting nervous I think-

I wish I had backed about 5 feet closer. Oh well-

Listen: A REAL Porsche owner, of a new product Porsche car, who had another Porsche pull up as close as possible and then jump up and take pictures.....

-You'd think he would see the fun in that, and step out of his car and say hello to the other Porsche enthusiast.

You'd think.

-But then again, that is just me~

I'm Normy. If you come to Fort Liquordale on vacation, and if you see a dark-brown early 928 with a skinny dork driving....and DON'T SAY "HI".... then you are just anti-social!

Kind of like the driver of this Panamera.

ITS RUMORED IN MAGAZINES THAT PORSCHE WILL RE-INTRODUCE THE 928 IN 2011! based on the panamera chassis..front engine (of course) in a V8-or even 600 hp V10! seen some artists renderings and it looks super.

Well, he/she actually is the stereotypical Porsche Owner. We are kind of a special breed. I work in La Jolla, California where seeing a Bugati, Ferrari or Lamborghini on a daily basis isn't uncommon. And yes, I see lots of Carreras, Caymans and Cayenne S's and for the most part, those that drive them are arrogant Richardheads. The kind you or me would love to "Slap" on the back of their heads. So Normy, I think you just saw what most Porsche owners are really like.

I AGREE! i live in central florida on the coast....most porsche owners here are arrogant bastards..or ignorant housewives of these BASTARDS driving a NEW cyanne turbo to pick up the kids from school. I see 911's-caymans-cayannes all day.. and even a beautiful Lamborghini JALPA i see every other weekend..only one driver has ever waved hi-( an older gentleman ). the funny thing is most dont even know what a 928 is! To tell you the truth my 928 gets MORE looks than any of these cars!--i believe most owners are not REALLY porsche enthusists, its just another car or class statment to them..they go to the dealership for an oil change!-ocasionally ill meet a cool person in a 968 or older 911 who will want to talk racing and stuff...they are out there. a dying breed!

Well... I don't like to brag...but... In my neiborhood, on any given day, you could see: numerous 4WD trucks w/custom mud spattered paint jobs, Jeeps, and if you're really fortunate ...my 1950 2ton chev flatbed with a couple 'O ton of hay on it. So, when I tool down the road in my 928, naturally, (if they don't know me) they think I'm: a Richard Head.
Oh well...Gotta be me.
-K

PS-Awesome interior in that Panamera, Chuck.

Normy- Just imagine what the other driver's face would have looked like if you backed up to him while hauling that washing machine machine around in the rear!

I've been flipped off a few times minding my own business in my mid 80's 911 going down the highway. There are those that have a Porsche, and those that want one! When driving my 928, 99% don't know what they are looking at.

Sadly, I've never been waved back to from another Porsche owner, so I've stopped waving. The ones I know at work don't even consider anything other than a 911 a 'real' Porsche; lunatics all. They say a 'real' Porsche has the engine in the back. When I challenge them with 917's and other prototypes, they become speechless blithering idiots. To each their own. I love my 928.

It is amazing the reaction one gets driving the 928. People wondering what it is, others knowing and wishing they had one, kids making fools of themselves in their little hot rods driving around you. It can invoke the good and bad in people. One friend told me it was just a VW and his wife said the color looks like bird poop. Ignorance and jealousy! Another friend who owns a 356 in mint condition told me my 928 is just beautiful, was amazed at it's condition!

The pic is cool until you read your caption. (kidding, it's nice) The first Panamera I saw next to another Porsche put it next to a Cayman. Actually there were a couple Cayman adjacent to it. The Panamera looks like an SUV next to it. I like it next to the 928. I have seen a couple at Daytona and like to compare it to other body styles.

p.s. Don't stop the wave. In S. FL as kids while growing up we knew each other by our cars and often all you could see was your friend's wave from an oncoming car- if he wouldn't stop it just meant his girl was in the car and he had to behave- all we got was a wave. No wave means his girl friend was mad at him.

Regards,
